SpeedSkating 101 or how to get your a$$ kicked

Holy Moly! Speedskating is HARD! Just got back from Utah from an intensive 3 day SpeedSkating camp at the Olympic Oval. That ice is smooth as glass. we got a whopping 8(!) hours of ice time.

When we were walking in on Friday morning some random guy was walking in with us. He
was walking *very* confidently and I thought to myself - "who is this bozo? strutting around like he owns the place. And look at him with his 'us speedskating' hoody. he probably bought it in the gift shop. speedskater wanna-be!" turns out it was Chad Hedrick. oops! I guess he earned that hoody.

Chad is training hard and filmed a couple of his tempo laps. Check out his website here
(look for the 12/11 post) you can see me in the background (I'm wearing a light purple jacket and black tights) as he is zipping around the track. He was fun to watch for sure.

Our coach was the Long Track Elite/High performance team coach and a recently retired World Cup gold medalist - Mike. He was really nice and patient.

Here's a pic of Mike in action - he's right behind Apolo Ono.

Day 1 - was a 3 hours of ice time, a dry-land workout, plyos and agility ladder.
Day 2 - was an "official race" - see pics below. Man - I suck! We also had 2 hours of ice time and another dry land workout
Day 3 - was 3 hours of ice time and another
500meter race and video analysis. Man - I suck!

sigh....I got a lot of work to do. Luckily I can get 5 days a week on the ice if i want. I am planning on attending the next camp in late Feb 2007. I have lots of time to work on technique.
