Eerie Erie 5k - eeked out a tiny PR

It's been a roller coaster week.  A couple of big lows, but then I was able to bounce back and laugh at my "problems" and not let them be a drag on my life.

I didn't want to make any specific plans this weekend, but since Dave only lives like 3 blocks from the start of the Eerie Eire - it seems like crime not to take advantage of the locale...so we rolled out of bed at 7:30 and walked down the street to register.

my garmin measured the course short 3.08 - but I think it went wacko - it shows me running through a couple of  houses here and there...Dave's garmin measured spot on, but I read that others had the course as long...who knows...

Last year this was my first ever running race and I was stoked with the 25:50 in 2011.  This year's official time was 25:40 an embarrassing 10 second PR.   I have to admit I was slightly disappointed - I'm only 10 seconds faster in a year.   I would have thought I'd be a lot faster - but I'm GLAD I wasn't slower - that would have been a real bummer.

One of the highlights was running side-by-side with Dave during this race - I loved that.  We were close to the same pace  - his official time was 25:21.   And after looking at the numbers and surviving this past week - I can say I'm officially satisfied with my race.   Maybe I don't suck too badly and I definitely believe I can improve. ;)
I always have this sheepish smile on my face when I win an award.  Why do I always feel like a fraud?
They give medals for the 1st & 2nd place.  This year I scored a medal (last year I was 3rd in AG).  This year 1st place 50-59 was a speedy 20:35.  (hmm...maybe I do suck...j/k)
And of course, I had to do a detailed comparison of last year.

OK, the only one who sucks around here is me! I meant to text you to wish you luck in this race and I forgot--ugh--bad friend.

As for you....you do NOT suck. Top 5% in gender???? That's awesome, especially around here (and c'mon...you know it!). And your age-graded 5K PR beats my 5K PR by 24 seconds (and my 5K PR was when I was 32). It's objectively correct to say.....you rock!

I'm very glad you go to run with Dave. That's always fun. Hopefully I'll get to race with (behind) Dan next year sometime.

That fact that you're out there doing it is a success and you're winning on so many levels.

Congrats!  In my book there is no embarrassing PR.  Good job on a speedy time.

A PR is a PR girl...you weren't training for a 5k and probably not doing a lot of speed work, so 10 seconds is fantastic!!  Congratulations (you beat my 5k time last weekend :)).

Thinking of your son in NY; I hope he is doing okay????

You should feel like a fraud when you podium, Cyn.  It's just not right to claim a prize for a 50 year old with the body of a 30 year old.  ;)

lol!  I WISH I had the body of a 30 year old...sadly my days of passing the pencil test are LONG gone. ;)

thanks Jill...I was just hoping to be more than 10 seconds faster...but i'll take it.  Actually, Ricky took a job in Dallas, TX and moved the week before the storm.  talk about good timing!
