In real life....

they say timing is everything....

In this internet age I've met several people online.  One of my mtn bike buddies I met and became friends with after he posted a GPS track about a race course I would be doing.   Another mtn bike friend I met through mtbr.com.   The list goes on - sometimes I joke I wouldn't have ANY friends if it wasn't for the internet.  (not totally true...)

So in late 2011 when running entered my life, I scoured the internets looking for running info. I was interested in running the Colder Bolder 5k and  I came upon Terzah's blog when I googled "Colder Boulder 5k".   I was instantly drawn into her blog and read pretty much every post. She comes across as a "real person" not a persona as so many other blogs I have read.  I thought to myself - I like this person!

I emailed her and we became 'internet friends'.   Since we don't live that far apart and we both like guacamole (and eating in general) we met up for lunch.  She is just as great in real life as she is on her blog.  And in real life we have become good friends.  I love her spark, honestly and perspective.   Every time I think about our conversations - I end up with a smile on my face.

Her blog is named bqby40.blogspot.com - it's about her quest to achieve a BQ before turning 40.   Today she turned 40 and is retiring the blog.  I'm sad in a way as I love reading her posts, but relieved that I know this wonderful person in real life so I won't lose her.

I got lucky with the timing - if her blog had been inactive when I started running - I might have missed out.

whew - I got lucky meeting Terzah before she turned 40(see the relief on my face).  Happy Birthday my beautiful friend!

This post is so funny because I know EXACTLY what you mean.  Yes, I'd have friends without the internet, but I can honestly say that (other than my family) the people I spend the most of my "free choice" time with and whose friendship have led to the majority of the adventures I blog about are all my friends because of initial internet connection.  Like you, I'm so grateful for the timing and for the technology that has made it possible. :)

And I'm glad that you and Terzah met, because I'm pretty sure that's how I found you...and some day I'm going to make it out there and meet you both and we can ALL go out for guacamole. :)

Now I'm the one who's getting weepy! Thank you for everything--lots of good times ahead in this friendship, that's for sure--Canyonlands, Eugene and beyond (maybe we'll both be able to do the Colder Bolder this year, too!). Meeting you was reason enough by itself to keep the blog, and I'm so glad we are friends "IRL."

Having met Kate in person, I vote she comes to Eugene.  She's the radness.  :-)
