Fragility of Life…

Every month after the Victim Advocate Support meeting I come away with life put in perspective.

You hear it time and time again –people are just going to work, riding their bicycle, walking down the street, having fun in Boulder Creek, eating dinner, etc and in a split second everything changes. Peoples lives end and/or change. The ripple effect on the witnesses, community, professionals (police/EMTs) and participants is astounding and lasting.

I find that reporting to a scene or call is oddly intimate. You don’t think about it at the time – but you are called in a moment of crisis and there’s no preparation. You walk directly into people’s lives/homes at stressful moment and you deal with people in their rawest moments. It has an effect on you. I have total respect for the folks that do this day-in and day-out.

This past month was especially challenging with a few incidents that make me think “wow! That could have been me!” It was a traumatizing month for sure. In addition – there was a follow up on the case I was called on and even though every thing is *ok* for now – this situation is a continual downward spiral.

What can you do tho? Life go on. Just keep on living and be as good a person as you can be and enjoy EVERY second and think about the simple things that make you happy.

Right now I’m happy I don’t have a cracked windshield(knock on wood). In Colorado it’s just a matter of time before your windshield is cracked – so every time I get my vehicle I’m happy my windshield isn’t cracked! It also makes me happy every time I hit a green light. Woohoo---time saved!
