jeny tagged me to post 6 random things you probably don't know about me.
hmm...i think most things have probably been alluded to in this blog - but in case you missed them...here it goes...
1. As I child I had to milk the cows at 6am.
As a result of having to get up early and milk the cows - any day that I don't have to get up before 6am to milk the cows - then it's a GREAT DAY! woot! (I never understood why the cows had to be milked so early...they can't tell time!)
2. once upon a time - probably until my late 20s I was excruciatingly shy.
I was so shy that when at work - I would time my bathroom breaks so I wouldn't pass anyone in the hall and have to make eye-contact or say 'hello'.
My job as a computer programmer (back in the 80s - which I happened to be really good at...) gave me great self-confidence and I realized I "wasn't so bad". As I gained that confidence I've become the person you know today.
3. I guess this goes hand-in-hand with #2 - but until my late 20s - I really didn't have any social skills.
I never had friends growing up. As an intelligent Hispanic(my parents stressed the importance of education) in the 60s/70s in a small Texas farming community school - the people there weren't used to "smart Mexicans" and as a result we were ostracized. The only time kids were friendly to me was to 'play a trick on me' or 'copy off of my homework'.
As a result - as an adult I didn't know how to interact with people.
Once a lady on the street told me I had "beautiful hair". I looked behind me to see who she was talking to and didn't see anyone behind me but couldn't believe she was talking to me so I ignored her comment. 25 years later I remember that incident and feel terrible I was so rude - but I just didn't know any better.
4. I was not an athletic child.
I was little and scrawny. (big surprise, eh?)
PE was the most traumatic class for me in elementary school. Whenever the team captains picked teams for kickball, basketball, whateverball - I was *always* the last kid picked. So sometimes it would be between me and the fat kid - but mostly I was the one no one wanted.
I hated kickball - whenever it was my turn the other team would shout 'easy out - easy out!' and the whole outfield would move in and darn it(!) I was always an easy out. :(
5. I never really did anything athletic until hit my 40s.
So many of the people I have meet in CO have been athletic all their lives...but to me it's still foreign.
I mean - all through my 20s/30s I would do my "3 times a week 45minute walk on the treadmill at the gym at an easy pace to burn off fat" and lift some weights. Mainly I did this to stay thin. I never ran a race, rode a bike hard or really ever got out-of-breath. I just did my time on the treadmill and stationery bike to stay under 99lbs.
My sister, Leticia, used to tell me "you are like a Porsche that sits in the garage and never gets driven over 30mph. You go to the gym to stay skinny but you never *do* anything!" Well...sis - how do you like me now?? ;)
6. I was super-geek pool player from 1996 - 2000
Yes - I know most of you know I once reached semi-pro status - but back the in late 90s I was doing a full-court press to become a professional.
I was focused, determined and obsessed with reaching my goal.
I had a plan:
All this culminated into reaching my goal to qualify for a Pro tournament in December 2000.

uhh...and i'm breaking tradition by not tagging anyone...i guess the buck stops here. ;)

I had a plan:
this is my WPBA (Womens Professional Billiards Association) plan book

in it is my MS project plan
weekly task list

calendar

I developed an MS Access database to keep track of every detail.
I would print a monthly results report.

this is all I have to remind me of that *one* Pro event I played in - a media guide and free tickets for me to give my family/friends to come watch.
