Spooky Betasso Ride

So it's been rainy and cold for that last 3 days. I'm heading to Seattle to tomorrow to visit my sister so I'll be off the bike for 4(!) days. I didn't ride outside Wed or Thursday so today was my last chance.

I booked it to Betasso after work hoping it wouldn't be to wet to ride.

The fog was rolling in and it was beautiful.

There wasn't a car in the parking lot when I arrived. I hopped on the bike and started riding - the trail was is perfect condition - nice and tacky and if you didn't brake too hard - not a mark was left of the trail. About 1/2 way thru the loop I smelled something kinda rank (dead animalish smelling) and some birds suddenly flew away. I started freaking out worried about mountian lions.(esp after this incident) I started riding @ 6pm which is Primo mtn lion feeding time. I was riding the SingleSpeed so I stood up in the pedals and started whopping and hollering to make myself bigger to scare off any potential wild animals. I bet I was a sight.

I finished the loop without incident but was too scared to get back on the trail by myself. Luckily 2 guys showed up and I ended up riding with them. Their pace was a little slower than mine but I was grateful for the company. ;)

oh - as a sidenote that lap where I rode by myself was my PR for the Betasso loop. 21:33 minutes - my previous PR was 22:10. AND on the SS mind you! Guess the fear of getting munched on is a big motivator for riding as hard as possible. hee-hee
