same bat place - same bat time

Short Track races have started...started in May this year (usually they don't start until June).

The "Hurricane of Pain" as David Towle called them.

Here are pix from 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010. (didn't race much 2009 so no 2009 pix)

hee-hee...looks like I'm getting my moneys worth from my castelli jersey I am wearing in 2006 and 2010. ;)

Race report for this year and subsequent years follow pix.

These races hurt like no other - sure they are only ~20minutes long - but it a balls-to-wall all out effort and after about 10 minutes i am pretty toasted.

For that reason I've backed off from the crits the last couple years. I'm a wuss and lazy and don't really care to hurt that bad...but this year I'm trying to get in shape and this is great speed work.

In 2007, 2008, and 2009(I think i only did 2 short track races in 2009) - I raced on the SS. Last year I did one race on a geared bike and realized that I get a better workout riding gears - i am never spun out so I get a harder workout. So this year will probably be a mix of racing on the SS and gearie.

Due to the wet weather the back side of the venue was pretty wet so they just marked the front side - as a result of this the course was short (~2minute lap vs. the standard ~5minute lap).

8 girls lined up but then I saw Marion on the side line - she said she hadn't had time to sign up but they let her jump in - so I believe there was the total of 9 girls.

At the start Marion got the hole-shot with me right behind. I stayed on her for about 3 laps but she pulled away. I was passed by one girl and then I passed her back. I was stronger on the short power hills but she is light and agile and was faster on the flat. We went back and forth a few times and on her final pass she made it stick. By this time I was in survival mode and hung on for 3rd place.
