1930s Craftsman - Dressing Room - Before and After

COVID...what can you say??

I had been pretty happy with my dressing room.  A place to relax, read and get dressed.  It was decent, but I had been wanting to paint the dingy off white walls and restore the painted over light fixture.  I did love the dark green velvet chaise, but it wasn't that functional.  And it would be nice to have a place for guests to sleep.

And now with over 8 months of working from home, it also became my office and needed to be changed up to reflect my needs.

I had been contemplating agonizing over what color to paint the walls.  I wanted something dramatic and colorful, but not overwhelming.  I was strongly drawn to blue-ish greens.   I painted a lot of paint swatches on the walls

Here are Green/Blue contenders

  • Sensual jade.
  • Stiletto
  • Elegant Silk
  • Vintage Jade
  • North Sea Green
  • Oasis Blue

In the end - I decided all the greens/blue seemed like it would be overpowering on the walls. (it was hard to let go of the idea of bold dramatic walls)

But, the light was so tricky.  A small-ish East facing window and a medium sized North facing window.  I finally decided to paint the walls white and take a risk to paint the ceiling blue ( a satin sheen).  Definitely a risk for me.

Then of course - due to the lighting, choosing a white was agonizing too.

The Whites

  • Highly Reflective White
  • Ultra White
  • Snowbound
  • Bistro White

And I'm SUPER stoked on how well it turned out.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the blue ceiling.  I restored the light fixture (stripped off all the old layers of paint)  The stamped metal was very discolored, so I spray painted the body copper and the socket holders white.   I LOVE the contrast between the copper and blue and I'm totally love that the detail from the stamped metal really stands out.

So here is the conversion.
