People say the craziest things

I swear - you can't make this stuff up...

it was an interesting evening.

first - my visit to Whole Foods.

I swung by Whole Foods to pick up a few things. As usual it was pretty crowded and busy.

They have this plastic box containing samples of bread so I went up to try a piece. There
were a couple of people ahead of me so we took turns holding up the lid while a person grabbed a piece of bread with tongs and then the next person would grab a piece of bread while the next person in line held up the lid.

I let the lid down and was standing beside the box (not in front) and this lady comes up

lady: "move out of the way"
me: "hey - there's plenty of room here"
lady: "there will be if you get out of the way"
me: "hmm....i guess you need more room then i do"
me - i start walking away
lady follows me: "DON'T you START with me. I'm really grumpy and if you push me I'll start
screaming at you and embarrass myself!!!"
me(taken aback and shrugging): "welll...be my guest"
me - i turn around walking away
lady follows me: "you must have a short people complex"
me - thinking (well...you are only 3 inches taller then me so WTF are you talking about??)
me - i didn't say anything and kept walking

another person overhearing: "wow! what's wrong with her? you didn't do anything and for her to start making person attacks!"
me: "yeah - that was weird - esp. when she threaten to *embarrass herself* - odd"

whew - i'm glad that's over with!

second - my visit to Concepts Furniture
Last night Dana and Xanthe had Dave, Cooley, Julie, Kirk, and I over for dinner. We had a
great time - fantastic company and good food - don't get much better then that...but i digress...

Now, I've been needing a new couch for over a 2(!) years as I have a 3-time hand-me-down futon. It's ugly - but when it's has come time to spend $$ on a couch or a new bike - the bike wins hands down every time! See pic below - the thing is hideous
.

Dana and Xanthe had this awesome couch I hadn't seen before. I couldn't find a pic of the exact couch on the Internet - but the pic below is close.
Small (it would fit nicely in my house) and open ended w/o arms so more people can sit around the sides, and very modern/retro looking. I asked where they got it and they said 'Concepts Furniture'.

Today after the Whole Foods incident - I go in Concepts (just to look mind you!)

I check out the pieces and the optional fabrics. Man! They have GREAT prices for quality of furniture and unique stuff.

So I'm talking to the girl about possibly buying a couch...
me: "I've been needing a couch for 2 years now - but I always opt to spend $ on bikes instead"
girl: "what kind of bikes"
me: "mtn bikes"
girl: "oh - don't bike - i just hike"
me: "hiking's cool"
we go on and discuss furniture, her dogs and etc.
I'm torn - i LOVE this cool fabric they have and think it would go great on the couch and in my house. I ask for a price ~$600. (seemed fair to me)

me: "can you figure up the price of a couch with this fabric and some pillows?"
girl: "sure"
girl tells me the price and it's really reasonable. I
me - thinking (hmmm....if i don't buy that Fox fork for the Seven and those long track blades and boots that would be the price of the couch. Plus - i'm NOT ready for Long Track clap blades as of yet - maybe next season )
me: "ok....I'll order. How long?"
girl: "10 -12 weeks"
me: "ok"
me - I write a check for the deposit and hand over my driver license.
girl (her eyes get big when she sees my birth year - 1961): "wow!"
me: "yeah - i'll be 46 this year and have a son that graduated from college"
girl: "OK! If this is what biking does for you - i'm gonna START riding a BIKE!"

isn't that the sweetest comment - it was super nice after the *whole foods incident*.

so new couch on the way! ;) btw - i'm taking a risk and going dramatic. Here's a pic of an ottoman with the fabric I picked out. Then I'm having Chocolate Brown square pillows and Bright Orange round pillows. Man - i hope i didn't screw up!!!
