Trip to TX - being "Ricky's Mom"

Once upon a time I didn't have a name - I was just "Ricky's Mom" - then I moved to Boulder 5 years ago.
I didn't know a soul in Colorado when I moved to Boulder - it was just me and my meager possesions.
Funny how I kinda "reinvented" myself without really trying. I quickly made friends and a life for myself here. Ricky continues to be a big part of my life. The only art that hangs on the walls of my home is Ricky's and I have 15 (according to his count) pictures of Ricky in my living area - but no one has really seen me in the context of Ricky's Mom. Ricky and I are close and talk frequently on the phone - however his visits to see me have been infrequent and brief
As one friend of mine said when he found out I had a kid in college - "You don't seem very Mom-like!" hmmm what does that mean? I don't wear "mom jeans", I don't have "old lady ass", I don't drive a mini-van, I don't really cook and bake?
I made a quick trip to Texas (Ricky landed a job in NYC - his first "professional" job and didn't need his car anymore) to drive back his car and his possesions to store for him.
Ricky lives with 2 roommates. As I was staying at his place this weekend - friends in the Flim program @ UNT were filming in the back yard. So I met several of Ricky's friends. It felt so good for them to say "Oh you must be Ricky's mom" or "Hey - this is Ricky's Mom" or "Hi Ricky's Mom" or Ricky introducing me "This is my Mom".
I didn't realize how much I missed the context of being known as "Ricky's Mom". All the "Mom" things I did - driving him around, helping with homework, cooking dinner, going to baseball and basketball games, taking him to practice, listening to him, reading to him, loving him dearly, etc. none of my friends really know about that.
That was such a "huge" part of my life for a long long time - I'm am sometimes sad that the people that matter to me don't really know who I am - I mean they listen to Ricky stories and I talk about him frequently - but no in my current life really knows me as "Ricky's Mom".
I'm looking forward to visiting him in NYC when I can just be "ricky's mom" again.
