New Mexico ridin' - GITA 2007 - Saturday
The annual GITA mtbr gathering was this past weekend. I've been dying to get back to ride the South Boundary Trail (~28miles from Angel Fire to Taos). This weekend was it - Saturday - Guaje Ridge in Los Alamos and Sunday SBT.Hitting the Road with a new friend.
Tom, Mark and I hit the road on Friday afternoon to head to GITA. This would be the first time I traveled with Mark (or even actually met him) so I was curious how he would fit in with me and Tom. I met Mark a couple of months ago on the internet - I was looking for info for the WP race #5 and he had posted motionbased gps track and a blog post about the course. I emailed him for more info on the first climb and lo and behold - he's a much a data geek as me. We had become fast friends on email but this would be the first time we've said more than 5 words to each other in person. Luckily he meshed well with me and Tom and after the first hour of our drive - things were rolling along just fine. We hit Santa Fe ~9pm, ate New Mex food (yummy) and crashed at the hotel.
Late Friday we got the bad news that Jen (ittybittybetty) crashed hard and had to be taken to the hospital.
Here's a pic of her right before her OTB. photo credit - notaknob/mtbr For post ride gory pix - check out her blog here. (WARNING - super gory pix at that link.)Guaje Ridge - Saturday's ride
We got up and hit the Santa Fe Bakery for breakfast and drove to Los Alamos for the ride. Guaje Ridge is a great ride, singletrack through pine trees, climbing through an open meadow, loose/steep rocky descents. I love this ride - unfortunately my technical mojo wasn't so hot and I struggled the 1st part of ride to finally get warmed up and then I actually rode some offt he technical portions. Here's some pix i gleaned off of the mtbr posts
